Key to the Citywest quality environment is the scale and approach of its landscaping. The landscaping is imaginatively designed to give shelter and security, together with a strong Celtic identity. There is a sense of arrival, an air of beauty and tranquility and a common thread to unite the whole development on a human scale and create a sense of community.
Throughout the campus there is strong emphasis on water and natural stone. Water as the source of all life and the mirror to the ever changing Irish Sky. Stone as the rock upon which Ireland is built, each stone unique in patination and shape. No trees are identical as shaped by the elements of wind and light, or pruned by the hare or rabbit and not by the human hand. Landform wraps around buildings sucking them into the landscape as they form a natural cradle of hills and hollows.
To compose and build such a landscape of this individuality requireds much of the work to be created not by traditional techniques, but by on-site instruction more like the hand of a sculptor or an artist. This, when aligned with the uniqueness of the materials used, ensures it cannot be repeated or made identical, even by the same people.
